A Vision of Efficiency
Terry McKay could see the potential for Impac Software
early on, but it wasn’t until she left a Philadelphia hospital
in 1994 to become President and CEO of West Michigan Cancer
Center (WMCC) that she had the opportunity to implement the
technology. In her opinion, it was worth the wait.
“We’ve seen the difference with Impac Software software,” she explained.
“Healthcare delivery at WMCC has been greatly enhanced by the
efficiency and quality assurance of these management tools.
There is a direct link to our ability to now better concentrate
our efforts on treating our patients.”
Maximizing Resources
Much of WMCC’s success can be credited to its highly motivated
and self-directed staff – people like medical oncologist Dr.
Raymond Lord, a computer-savvy physician who had earlier
developed his own electronic medical records system (EMR). Nancy
Henderson, one of the staff nurses, has also been instrumental
in developing medical oncology care plans to support the needs
of five medical oncologists at the center. When evaluating
options for software management systems, they agreed that Impac Software
would provide WMCC with the best solutions.
WMCC first used Impac Software’s Multi-ACCESS scheduling software, and
they soon added an EMR application in the radiation oncology and
medical oncology departments. McKay was fully committed to the
success of the new systems; early on, she sent her team out to
see what other cancer centers were doing with the software. The
result of their observations: WMCC learned to maximize the new
systems in record time, while implementing or adapting best
practices.
Foundation for Continued Success
Over the years, WMCC has built extensive information systems
with Impac Software products, the most recent upgrades being billing
software and IntelliLab, which McKay says “works like a dream.”
But software is only part of the equation, and McKay notes that
WMCC’s experience has been greatly enhanced by the collaborative
relationship they’ve enjoyed with Impac Software through the years. “The
team at Impac Software has been inspirational and instrumental in
propelling our very motivated group forward,” she said.
McKay also offers praise for Impac Software’s patience and creativity in
designing solutions that have met the center’s changing needs.
According to McKay, benefits of being an Impac Software customer include
product support, ongoing education, and multiple opportunities
to communicate with other users through programs such as Impac Software’s
Medical Oncology Summit. |
