Pioneer Physician Group Still Inspiring System Development

Customer Snapshot

Quality Patient Care
Valley Radiotherapy Associates Medical Group (VRA) was instrumental in implementing the first IMPAC oncology management system at Valley Radiation Oncology Center in Tarzana, CA. The objective was clear: provide their network of practices with a data management system that would ensure a uniformly high standard of patient care. Dr. Leslie Botnick, VRA’s president and chief executive officer, was looking for an organizational infrastructure to fit their diverse requirements. “In 1990, IMPAC met the criteria; since then the functionality and use of the IMPAC system has grown in line with our own organizational development. Since the first system was installed, we have worked closely with IMPAC to develop enhancements that reflect the many changes and developments in clinical practice, these software developments have been rapidly incorporated into all of our installed sites.”

Integrating New Facilities

For VRA, the challenge has been coping with the technical and clinical evolution of radiation oncology care at the same time as building a growing network of treatment facilities. Botnick stated, “Integrating new facilities can be problematic; we have often encountered organizational confusion and inefficiencies at a new site such as the problems experienced when we entered the states of New Mexico and Colorado. Introducing IMPAC helps us to eliminate the confusion, enhance efficiency, and increase patient throughput.”

Instantaneous Access to Clinical Data
VRA uses IMPAC for scheduling, clinical data management, outcome assessments, and billing. Each day nearly 600 patients are treated within the VRA network and the ability to manage large volumes of data in a streamlined manner is an essential aspect of their oncology management software. According to Botnick, the IMPAC system is an “interactive, live process that is part of the patient’s treatment from day one. The efficiency of the software has helped to coordinate all aspects of patients’ treatments and the easy, instant access to clinical data has ensured that all the most recent and up-to-date information is available to support medical judgment.”
