News of the acquisition of IMPAC by Elekta AB in April 2005 had
a positive impact on the clinicians at Thomas Jefferson
University (TJU). The center has used both Elekta and IMPAC
systems for years, and the clinicians find themselves energized
by the possibilities this teaming presents.
“I was excited to hear about the acquisition,” says Amy Taylor,
assistant chief therapist. “IMPAC and Elekta systems have always
worked well together, but certainly the closer the two companies
work together, the more efficient our operation will be.”
TJU radiation oncologist’s desire for world-class database
management drove them to acquire their first IMPAC system in
1998. Over the years, the system has steadily expanded
functionality beyond traditional verify and record. IMPAC’s
system connects TJU’s Elekta treatment systems to the vital
information stored in IMPAC’s electronic medical record (EMR).
“From a customer’s point of view, we feel most comfortable if we
can ask one vendor to take care of verify and record, treatment
planning, and the linear accelerator, “ adds James Galvin,
D.Sc., director of medical physics. “If I can accomplish that
through one strong relationship, that is ideal. With IMPAC
onboard, all these things are an integrated package now.”
