Lynn Regional Cancer Center (LRCC), a multi-site practice owned
by the Boca Raton Community Hospital, first implemented IMPAC’s
radiation oncology software to take advantage of its record and
verify system, then followed with the patient scheduling module
and billing system. These components have allowed LRCC
physicians to enter charges for their services directly into the
system accessible by the parent hospital.
Improved Accuracy
“IMPAC has become the core software for our daily practice,
enabling us to work more efficiently, more cost effectively, and
more accurately,” said Dr. Charles Shang. “We use the IMPAC
system’s DICOM-RT to export treatment parameters from our
treatment planning system to treatment machines. With its high
accuracy and consistency, we have been extremely careful if any
transferred parameters have to be manually changed -the accuracy
of these settings is better and checking them is quicker.”
Aid in Quality Control
Another way IMPAC is improving the quality of LRCC’s practice is
by providing a means for making patient QA list, organizing and
sorting data. “This is invaluable not only for coming up with
the quality statistics required by state regulation and JCAHO
recommendations, but it enables us to discover problematic
areas, which we can then address,” according to Dr. Shang.
Continuous Improvement
One of the aspects Dr. Shang appreciates most about IMPAC is its
dedication to continuous improvement. During his decade of using
IMPAC, he has observed an improvement in its interfaces and its
ability to integrate among different functions. And, as new
technology has become available, IMPAC has developed upgrades
accordingly. Citing IMPAC’s responsiveness to the evolving needs
of cancer care, Dr. Shang said, “We give IMPAC a ‘to do’ list of
what we’d like and IMPAC has been very responsive. We said we’d
like to integrate images and patient charts, and IMPAC listened.
Now, we’re in the process of going to paperless charts with
images.”
Friendly Support
When someone at LRCC has a question or a problem, there’s no
hesitation about phoning IMPAC’s support team for help. Shang
added, “The customer support staff are friendly and patient.
They try their best to answer our questions and provide good
follow-through.”
