A VARiS® user for two years, CentraState Medical Center recently
converted to IMPAC to transition its center to full electronic
charting and practice management. In January 2005, CentraState
began using IMPAC to enable treatment delivery on its Varian
accelerator and in May 2005 upgraded the accelerator with the
new 4D Integrated Treatment Console™ (ITC). Support of the
Varian On-Board Imager™ (OBI) is also provided in IMPAC’s
image-enabled treatment management solution.
IMPAC Support for 4D
According to Jan Dragotta, clinical director of
radiation oncology, “We were already planning to implement
Varian’s 4D Console and OBI when we decided to convert to the
IMPAC system. So IMPAC’s support of the new image-guided
technology was critical. I was impressed by how smoothly we were
able to make the transition to the 4D. It’s less than a month
and we’re already treating 30 patients a day and our
productivity continues to improve.”
Image-Guided Technology
“With 30% of our patients being treated with Intensity Modulated
Radiotherapy (IMRT) and therefore requiring pre-port setup
fields, we’re looking forward to implementing OBI, and
manipulating and storing images as part of IMPAC’s image-enabled
oncology chart,” she says.
Choice & Flexibility
Dragotta adds, “CentraState is happy with the Varian treatment
equipment, but also happy that we made the choice to move to
IMPAC as an oncology management solution. It’s been less than a
year since we moved to the IMPAC system and I admit, it’s been a
bit of work to make the transition to a broader information
management solution; but now – even more than when we made the
initial decision – we appreciate the value of an independent
verification solution which provides us with choice and
flexibility in our equipment purchases.”
