Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) has a
multifaceted public mission, part of which is to strive for
excellence in research and clinical practice. OHSU’s anatomic
pathology department helps accomplish this mission by focusing
on multiple histology and cytogenetics specialties.
The reporting demands, worklists and workflow associated with
OHSU’s wide array of specialties explain why the pathology group
is excited about the new features in PowerPath® Version 9 from
IMPAC Medical Systems, Inc. By taking the anatomic pathology
system live in a clinical setting in September 2006, OHSU
centralized control of data and information analysis. The
department also incorporated CAP protocol reporting and
immunohistochemistry resulting into reports generated from
PowerPath to help OHSU present results to their customers in an
effective and attractive format.
PowerPath version 9 includes a number of enhancements and
options that enable OHSU pathologists to improve efficiency and
quality of reporting while accommodating multiple workflows.
Enhanced CAP Protocol worksheets are now integral to PowerPath’s
reporting module, allowing OHSU to generate synoptic reports
that adhere to CAP regulations.
“Our team welcomes the worklist enhancements that are available
now in Version 9. The flexible browser views and reports have
streamlined our workflow, especially given all our labs’ various
specialties,” says Megan Troxell, MD, OHSU pathologist. “We’re
also better able to present our immunohistochemistry results and
generate clearly formatted reports that comply with CAP
protocols.”
In fact, the password-based customization of multiple worklists
helps technologists better manage 20 different histology and
cytogenetics worklists. Other enhancements include advanced
case-finding tools and an optional Immunohistochemistry
Resulting module.
A PowerPath customer since 1999, OHSU originally selected
IMPAC’s pathology management system because of its intuitive
operation. Now with the latest release of PowerPath, OHSU
obtains efficiency in their workflow and ease-of-reporting
results – all with a user-friendly design.
“What sparked our interest in the new release of PowerPath were
the front-end and case-centric views, which directly addressed
functionality that our labs have grown to require. But what
sealed the deal for us was the product’s ease-of-use,” says
Malcolm Chun, healthcare applications engineer at OHSU. “We are
very satisfied with our decision to implement PowerPath.”
Over the years, IMPAC has continuously enhanced PowerPath
software’s functionality and support to better meet the needs of
pathologists, which further delights the OHSU team.
“As IMPAC customers, we’ve always been able to rely on a solid
commitment to R&D and customer support,” says Susan Woods, OHSU
computer analyst. “IMPAC’s collaborative and good-natured
product management and implementation staff demonstrate
dedication, not only to client service, but also to the customer
feedback that can be so key to developing a state-of-the-art
pathology management system like PowerPath.”
The OHSU staff currently enjoys success and efficiencies with
the recent implementation of PowerPath Version 9 software. In
the future they plan to incorporate additional worklist
enhancements and custom formatting on CAP worksheets. OHSU often
allows visitors to see their workflow and use of PowerPath. |
