The Positioning Challenge
Accurate reproduction of treatment plans is critical to
reduction of normal tissue volumes and dose escalation to target
tissues; but problems such as organ motion, patient movement,
and changes to patient or target contours pose a challenge to
accurate positioning. New imaging, as well as non-imaging,
devices have emerged to overcome the challenge.
Support for IGRT
For years, IMPAC’s verification system has streamlined port film
capture, review, and approval as part of the treatment
verification process, and continues to support electronic portal
imaging from all the major manufacturers, as well computed
radiography. Today IMPAC also supports the latest in
image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) including support for cone
beam CT. IMPAC’s EMR-based, image-guided treatment management (IGTM™)
solution streamlines IGRT delivery regardless of manufacturer.
And IMPAC’s Setup Intelligence™ extends the radiation oncology
EMR to provide enhanced support for patient position
verification and analysis.
Setup Intelligence™
Setup Intelligence combines sophisticated on- or off-line image
registration tools with the ability to capture, document, and
analyze positional shift information resulting from setup
variations in conventional, IMRT, and IGRT delivery techniques.
Regardless of localization/immobilization method, IMPAC’s Setup
Intelligence™ ensures that the correct patient and reference
image is selected for localization, facilitates required
adjustments, records the image to document actual treatment
position, and saves the degree of shift for subsequent trend
reporting.
Beyond Treatment Verification
In addition to helping improve the accuracy and reproducibility
in daily treatment setup, Setup Intelligence also maintains a
complete treatment history for review and analysis. The system
lets you evaluate individual daily setups to identify systemic
variations, refine patient setups in response to systemic
changes, and analyze patient populations across multiple
positioning methodologies.

Because IMPAC’s oncology EMR is fundamentally
image-enabled, patient positioning data and images
are easily incorporated into the EMR and reviewed
and managed as an integral part of the therapy
process.
