External Systems Interfacing
IMPAC develops information technology (IT) solutions that meet
the unique needs of the cancer center, while maintaining a
powerful, communications layer to ensure that IMPAC oncology IT
solutions easily co-exist in virtually any type of healthcare
environment. IMPAC’s line of HL7-compliant external systems
interfaces (ESIs) adheres to the latest Health Level 7 (HL7)
communication standards to support the electronic exchange of
patient information between IMPAC’s management system and other
types of healthcare information systems.
Connecting to the Healthcare Enterprise
IMPAC’s HL7 connectivity means registration information from the
hospital, lab results from an outside lab, or external
documentation from any number of sources can be easily imported
into your IMPAC system to become an integral part of the
oncology EMR. Likewise critical information such as orders,
transcriptions, treatment summaries, and charges can be easily
exported from the IMPAC EMR to any HL7-compliant information
system. The ready exchange of data such as patient ADT
(Admission, Discharge, and Transfer) information, laboratory
results, orders, charges, and documents effectively connects
your IMPAC system to the healthcare enterprise.
Overall System Control
IMPAC’s ESI Manger administers the interchange of data, managing
multiple interfaces simultaneously and allowing each interface
to be defined and configured independently. The ESI Manager
allows for interface-specific, user-defined message processing
and mapping of data variables, thereby supporting site-specific
data customization and ensuring smooth communication flow
without requiring absolute homogeneity of data between two
systems. IMPAC supports a variety of communication protocols –TCP/IP or file-based and interactive or polling options– that
are configured for each specific interface allowing you to
select the protocol that best suits your requirements.
Collaborative Implementation
Above all, IMPAC’s ESI Manager and interfaces are designed to be
straight-forward to implement, test, and maintain. IMPAC ESI
implementation specialists are committed to forwarding interface
deployment, proactively working with your IT staff to install
and configure each interface, establish and test communication
protocols, resolve mapping issues, and confirm data accuracy
prior to clinical implementation. And the ESI Manager
facilitates interface maintenance by providing a
viewable log of all transactions and error codes, and
user-defined error handling in the event of missing, invalid or
duplicated information.
