Dermatopathology Resulting
The Dermatopathology Resulting Module streamlines the resulting
of dermatopathology cases by expediting the resulting and report
generation steps. An extension of PowerPath, the
Dermatopathology Resulting Module further improves workflow in
hospitals and laboratories providing specialized
dermatopathology services.
Beyond Surgical Pathology
As with surgical cases in PowerPath, dermatopathology resulting
is accomplished using Microsoft® Word®. Once specimens are
received, the dermatopathology case is accessioned in PowerPath.
Findings are rendered in Microsoft Word using abbreviated codes
after microscopic examinations have been completed.
Dermatopathology Dictionary
The Dermatopathology Resulting Module permits the microscopic
and final diagnosis findings to be entered as abbreviated codes
based on an organization’s custom Dermatopathology Dictionary.
The diagnostician may enter up to three diagnosis codes for each
specimen covered in the report based on items within the
dictionary.
Modifying the Report
Diagnosticians can modify the report if necessary to augment
specimen descriptions, diagnoses, etc. The Dermatopathology
Resulting Module can be used when preparing the initial report,
correcting the original report, amending a report, or correcting
an amendment.
Automatic Text Entry
Depending upon the contents of an organization’s customized
special findings dictionary, PowerPath expands each diagnosis
code into one or more of several items of text: a description of
the microscopic finding, the indicated diagnosis, the
appropriate ICD-9 code (including the diagnostic topography
indicator), and the associated SNOMED morphology (M) codes.
PowerPath then translates the codes into the appropriate text
and incorporates expanded text into the patient report according
to custom report templates.
