Mountain View, CA, April 29, 2005
IMPAC Medical Systems,
Inc., part of the Elekta Group and a leading provider of
information technology solutions for pathology and oncology,
today named Patricia Erickson, HT, (ASCP),
University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC) in Seattle, WA,
the recipient of the 2005 IMPAC Laboratory Professional of the
Year award.
IMPAC’s Laboratory Professional of the Year program honors
outstanding staff members who made valuable contributions to
the success of their clinical or anatomic pathology lab
throughout the year.
Patricia Erickson, supervisor of histology in the department of
anatomic pathology at UWMC, is recognized for her exceptional
service over the past three years. When she joined UWMC, the lab
was behind in processing tests results, but through Erickson’s
management and her philosophy of not asking anyone to do
something she wouldn’t do herself, the team turned around in
morale, productivity, and efficiency – slashing overtime by 50%
in her first six months on the job.
Erickson implemented system changes and cross training, further
improving the efficiency of the lab, as well as staff morale.
Additionally, after careful examination of supplies, contracts,
and vendors, Erickson helped the department to visualize a
savings last year of $25,000.
Erickson also supervised the deployment of new equipment in the
lab that reduced to only 90 minutes a testing process that
previously took up to nine hours. UWMC expects to save $30,000
over the next few years with this advanced technology and
equally important, it is much more friendly to the environment.
Erickson was thrilled to hear of the Lab Professional of the
Year award, and said “I couldn’t be successful without the hard
work and spirit of the entire staff. There is a chemistry and
enjoyment in the lab, and I’m pleased to have the best histology
staff around.” Erickson and her colleagues are driven by patient
care and patient satisfaction.
“IMPAC is pleased to recognize Patricia Erickson as the 2005
IMPAC Laboratory Professional of the Year,” said Joseph K.
Jachinowski, IMPAC president and CEO. “Patti makes a significant
contribution to her department and community, working with other
histology supervisors in the community to help techs become
certified. She is a terrific example to others in the field and
very deserving of this award.” In recognition of the
accomplishment, IMPAC will provide Erickson with a stipend to
support ongoing professional development.
IMPAC announced two recipients for honorable mention: Shawn
Clary, lab director, Oncology Hematology Associates of Central
Illinois (OHACI), Peoria, IL and Anna Rodriguez, pathology
assistant, Sutter Delta Medical Center, Antioch, CA.
