Sunnyvale, California, October 30, 2008
– Thirteen of Impac Software’s oncology Electronic Medical
Record (EMR) customers were recognized Monday, October 20 at the
2008 Hematology & Oncology Practice Excellence (HOPE) Awards
Dinner. Launched in 2007 by Hematology & Oncology News & Issues,
the HOPE awards encourage the development of practice standard
excellence within community-based cancer centers.
Acknowledged earlier in the year for achieving a balance between
quality patient care and sound business practices, each of the
thirteen Impac customers were recognized as nominees for the
Practice of the Year award – which was presented to a small,
medium and large practice.
“While there are many keys to practice excellence, at Impac we
believe quick and easy access to medical records is integral to
patient care,” says Jay Hoey, Executive Vice President Product
Creation at Elekta and President and CEO of Impac Software.
“Designed to support every member of the cancer care team,
Impac’s oncology EMR reduces costs, increases productivity and
boosts efficiency – while enabling clinicians to spend more time
focusing on their patients.”
Twenty seven small, 15 medium and 16 large practices competed to
be the 2008 HOPE Practice of the Year. Committed to utilizing
EMR technology for the advantage of patient care, the following
Impac customers have been selected as finalists. As a finalist,

“There is no doubt that choosing and implementing an EMR system
was the single biggest risk the practice has taken in the last
five years,” says Colin Curran, M.D. and Managing Director of
Palmetto Hematology Oncology and HOPE Award winner. “Now almost
three years after implementation, everyone in the practice
agrees that the quality of care has improved, and it has clearly
been financially beneficial to the practice.”
The awards, which are based on the analysis of metrics-based
information provided by each center’s submission, as well as a
blind balloting process conducted by a HONI panel of experts,
were presented at the Fairmont Hotel in Chicago, Illinois in
conjunction with the 2008 Cancer Center Business Summit. For
