Palmetto Hematology Oncology, one of Impac Software’s medical oncology
customers, has received the Hematology & Oncology News & Issues
(HONI) HOPE (Hematology & Oncology Practice Excellence)
recognition award in the leadership category. This is the second
award that Palmetto has received this year, the prior was for
practice excellence.
A national leader in EMR technology, numerous U.S. cancer
centers have visited South Carolina-based Palmetto Hematology
Oncology to observe how they successfully implemented their
system.
“There is no doubt that choosing and implementing an EMR was the
single biggest risk the practice has taken in the last five
years,” says Colin Curran, M.D. and Managing Director of
Palmetto Hematology Oncology. “Now almost three years after
implementation, everyone in the practice agrees that the quality
of care has improved, and it has clearly been financially
beneficial to the practice.”
Hematology & Oncology News & Issues’ HOPE initiative was created
to encourage the development of practice standard excellence
within community-based cancer centers. By providing examples of
the best models available, it is anticipated that the three-year
initiative will help reshape oncology practices.
The analysis of metrics-based information provided by each
center’s submission, as well as a blind balloting process
conducted by a HONI panel of experts, resulted in the final
selection of each center. To view the March issue featuring
