IMPAC MEDICAL SYSTEMS, INC. ANNOUNCES 2004 REGISTRAR OF THE YEAR

IMPAC Recognizes Marilyn Richardson, Tift Regional Medical Center

Mountain View, CA, April 12, 2004
IMPAC Medical Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:IMPCE), a leading provider of information technology solutions for oncology care, today named Marilyn Richardson, CTR, RHIT, a tumor registrar at Tift Regional Medical Center in Tifton, GA the recipient of the 2004 IMPAC Registrar of the Year award.

IMPAC’s Registrar of the Year program honors outstanding registrars who have made valuable contributions to the success of the registry and those who further expand their contributions to the community and broader facility.

Richardson is recognized for her exceptional service to Tift Regional Medical Center over the past three years. When she joined, she
was the only employee at the facility’s cancer registry and the registry was in a tremendous backlog, with state reporting sporadic at best. According to Kathy Alberson, director of health information management, “Her first order of business was to get the hospital
on target with state required reporting, which she accomplished in no time. I find that she is everything a manager wants in an employee. She is self motivated, enthusiastic and dedicated to
the organization and the oncology program, offering a word of inspiration whenever needed. In short, she is a pleasure to
work with.”

Richardson’s background is in the field of Health Information Management, which provided her with strong clinical and organizational skills. Her dedication to the registry, co-workers, patients and the organization became the driving force behind the hospital's efforts to become an accredited program through the American College of Surgeons. Richardson voluntarily attended educational sessions for the first two years to better prepare for the challenge. During her second year in the registry, she took her certification exam and obtained her CTR credential.

She worked tirelessly with the Cancer Committee, Cancer Liaison and Head Nurse for Oncology Services to organize the effort for an American College of Surgeons survey in December of 2003. “I changed careers midstream to abstract, and it has been difficult, but also very rewarding,” said Richardson. “I’m excited that we just received our three year accreditation to Tift Regional Medical Center’s Oncology Program –which is the first of many milestones
to come.”

“IMPAC is honored to recognize Marilyn Richardson as the 2004 IMPAC Registrar of the Year,” said Joseph Jachinowski, IMPAC president and CEO. “Marilyn is an exceptional registrar who makes a significant contribution to her registry and community, voluntarily expanding her knowledge and skills to ensure that the registry is operating efficiently. Her involvement and success is admirable and a terrific example to others in the field.” In recognition of the accomplishment, IMPAC will provide Richardson with a $250 stipend to support ongoing professional development.

Kathy Lougiu, CTR, RHIT, cancer data services coordinator of Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis, MN, won the 2004 IMPAC Outstanding Registrar award and a $100 stipend to support ongoing professional development. Demonstrating her commitment to cancer registry, she attends seminars and state/national meetings, accruing 200 plus continuing education units in the last two years – far exceeding the mandatory 20 units. In addition, Lougiu has served on Minnesota Cancer Registrars Association (MCRA) committees for the past three years, and at the end of this month will be sworn in as president.

IMPAC would also like to announce the three recipients for honorable mention: Jean Aclin, MPH, RHIA, CTR, University of Massachusetts Memorial HealthAlliance, Leominster, MA, Elizabeth Blair, MSN, RN, CTR, Alaska Cancer Registry, Anchorage, AK, and Kathleen Marcia, CTR, Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital, Virginia Beach, VA.
