SUNNYVALE, CA, April 27, 2007
IMPAC Medical Systems,
Inc. (IMPAC), an Elekta company and a leading provider of
oncology information technology solutions, today awarded the
2007 IMPAC Laboratory Professional of the Year, Anatomic
Pathology award to Patricia Schraw, HT, (ASCP) from Meritcare
Medical Center, Fargo, ND, and the 2007 IMPAC Laboratory
Professional of the Year, Clinical Laboratory, to India Stanley,
MT (AMT) from Kinston Medical Specialists, of Kinston, NC.
IMPAC’s Laboratory Professional of the Year program honors
outstanding laboratory professionals in both the anatomic
pathology lab and clinical lab who make valuable contributions
to the success of their laboratory operations, and who extend
their contributions to benefit the broader medical facility and
community. These awards are part of IMPAC’s celebration of
National Medical Laboratory Professionals Week, April 22-28,
2007.
Patricia Schraw is recognized for her exceptional service to
Meritcare Medical Center over the past 29 years. As former
supervisor of the histology lab, she was instrumental in moving
the lab to using special stains and automation. Patricia has
also been instrumental in setting up ThinPrep® paps for HPV and
fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) for HER-2/Neu on
paraffin blocks, and also works up new immunoperoxidase stains
for pathologists. She conducts most of the troubleshooting for
these stains, working closely with vendors, and always
facilitates cases for pathologists so patient care can begin.
India Stanley has been laboratory manager of Kinston Medical
Specialists for the past nine years and has led the facility
during its growth from 10 doctors and five locations to 20
doctors and 10 locations in North Carolina. A strong leader, her
staff nominated her for this award to demonstrate their
appreciation for not only taking them through the pains of
growth, but also helping them to recognize their own ability to
grow. As Kinston added sites, physicians, new instruments and
tests, India is credited for her determination to see that the
lab offers quality results, enabling her facility to continue to
give quality care to the local community.
“I’m thrilled and very proud to work with my group and make a
difference in the community,” said Schraw after learning of her
award. Stanley noted, “It's wonderful to have the privilege to
work with such an extraordinary team. This is a great way to
celebrate Lab Week.”
“IMPAC is pleased to recognize Patricia Schraw and India Stanley
as the 2007 IMPAC Laboratory Professionals of the Year in
Anatomic Pathology and Clinical Laboratory,” said George Rugg,
Vice President and General Manager of IMPAC’s Laboratory
Information Systems Business Unit. “They have demonstrated an
impressive level of professionalism and expertise, and their
involvement and success are terrific examples to others in the
field.”
IMPAC would also like to announce the recipients for honorable
mention, Anatomic Pathology: Dale Gibson, operations manager,
Georgetown University Hospital, Washington, DC, and honorable
mention, Clinical Laboratory, Rebecca Danner, laboratory manager
at AXIOM Laboratories in Tampa, Florida.
