The Association of Pathology Informatics, the CAP Foundation, and IMPAC Medical Systems Announce Medical Informatics Scholarship for Pathology Residents and Fellows

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., March 2, 2005 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX/ -- IMPAC Medical Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: IMPC), a leading provider of anatomic pathology IT solutions, the Association of Pathology Informatics (API), and the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Foundation announced today a new unrestricted educational grant to provide additional training for pathology residents and fellows.

"This initiative provides excellent synergy between our three organizations and helps to advance our mission to promote the field of pathology informatics as an academic and a clinical subspecialty of pathology," said Mark Tuthill, M.D., president of API. "We are excited to be involved with this program."

CAP Foundation President Thomas Wood, MD, FCAP, said, "The collaboration of the three organizations on this grant is an excellent example of pathology and industry working together to advance new technology to improve patient care."

The Pathology Informatics Scholarship supports further training in pathology informatics through two, three-week rotations: one at IMPAC's headquarters and one elective rotation at a facility specializing in pathology informatics. The grant will provide up to $5000 to offset expenses incurred during the program.

"We are delighted to support pathology residents and fellows through a medical informatics scholarship and further define our commitment to pathology. IMPAC strives to provide a single source of data for discovery and analysis through diagnosis, treatment, and long-term follow-up. This grant helps emphasize the value of diagnostic data to an overall informatics program to refine clinical outcomes, improve patient outcomes, and advance population-based cancer research," stated Joseph K. Jachinowski, president and CEO of IMPAC Medical Systems.

The program will be administered by the CAP Foundation and the API. Applications are now available by visiting www.cap.org, www.pathologyinformatics.org, or www.impac.com/informatics.
