Interface Will Be the First Complete Linear Accelerator DICOM-RT Interface And
Will Facilitate Connectivity Between Elekta's Digital Linear Accelerators And
IMPAC's Oncology Management System
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Dec. 2 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ --
IMPAC Medical Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: IMPC), a leading provider of information
management solutions for cancer care, and Elekta, a world-leading supplier of
advanced and innovative radiation oncology solutions and services, announce
today their agreement to use a full DICOM-RT compliant specification for the
development of an interface to connect the Elekta product lines of digital
linear accelerators (Elekta Synergy(TM) and Precise Treatment System(TM)) with
IMPAC's oncology information management products.
This interface will provide a vendor-independent means of facilitating
universal connectivity of next-generation radiation treatment devices, such as
linear accelerators and proton therapy delivery systems, as well as treatment
simulation devices to information management systems. IMPAC and Elekta are the
first to formally adopt the standard. Both companies have been working
together towards this goal over the past months.
"This is a collaborative development effort aimed at improving the process
of managing increasingly complex cancer treatment techniques," stated
Joseph K. Jachinowski, president and CEO of IMPAC. "IMPAC is delighted to team
with Elekta in this agreement to adopt the DICOM-RT standard in a complete
manner," he added.
"This agreement will further improve seamless connectivity for customers
by expanding the use of new technology systems as well as shorten the start-up
time for new and expanding cancer centers," stated Tomas Puusepp, president
and CEO of Elekta, Inc. "More importantly, patients will benefit from a more
rapid deployment of leading edge treatments. We encourage all oncology vendors
to join Elekta and IMPAC in adopting this standard."
