Mountain View, CA, July 24, 2003
A five-year, $5.3 million agreement to provide additional software
and services—including support for proton therapy—was reached by
The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center (M. D.
Anderson) and IMPAC Medical Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:IMPC), a leading
provider of information management solutions for cancer care.
IMPAC will provide the additional software and services for M. D.
Anderson’s radiation therapy center, satellite facilities, as well
as for M. D. Anderson’s new ambulatory care facility and proton
therapy center.
“This is a collaborative development effort aimed at improving the
process of managing increasingly complex cancer treatment
techniques,” stated Joseph K. Jachinowski, President and CEO of
IMPAC. “IMPAC is delighted to team with M. D. Anderson Cancer
Center in its expansion of the oncology information system to
include support for proton therapy and its new ambulatory care
facility,” he added.
According to James Cox, M.D., head of the Division of Radiation
Oncology at M. D. Anderson, the organization is anticipating the
expansion of IMPAC functionality at the existing facility, as well
as complete implementation of IMPAC systems at the new ambulatory
care facility and the Proton Therapy Center currently under
construction. “IMPAC has consistently provided the Division of
Radiation Oncology with high quality information systems to manage
the operation of our busy cancer center. The expansion of the
system to include support for additional treatment facilities and
our new proton center will help us to further enhance our process
efficiency while maintaining the highest levels of quality across
our entire campus,” he said.
“This agreement solidifies M. D. Anderson’s relationship with
IMPAC as we move forward with our expansion into new modalities
such as proton therapy,” said Mitch Latinkic, Division
Administrator of Radiation Oncology. “IMPAC and M. D. Anderson
have worked closely together since 1995 towards the realization of
our shared vision of the information infrastructure required for
providing leading edge, quality patient care.”
M. D. Anderson is currently comprised of three treatment
facilities and manages over 600 patient visits a day. IMPAC
provides M. D. Anderson’s Radiation Oncology Division with
integrated clinical and administrative management software
comprised of an image-enabled electronic medical record, treatment
and planning device integration, IMRT treatment management and
quality assurance functions, patient registration, scheduling, and
charge capture, all implemented in a wide area network including
wireless connectivity.
