Mountain View, CA,
August 17, 2001
IMPAC Medical Systems, Inc.,
and SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital today announced a
joint venture into the alpha phase of a pediatric oncology
integrated clinical & administrative management system. IMPAC, the
world’s leading provider of oncology information systems, has
developed pediatric oncology software which will integrate
chemotherapy ordering regimens specifically available for use by
healthcare professionals in clinically treating their pediatric
patients.
Under the partnership, Cardinal Glennon will provide consultation
regarding modifications and enhancements required for IMPAC’s
eCHART™ in the pediatric oncology population. Additionally,
Cardinal Glennon will advise on information to create a database
for pediatric protocols, chemotherapy regimens, pediatric
medications, procedures, flowsheets, assessment views, laboratory
values, and transcription templates. The alpha implementation of
the pediatric oncology management system will be available for
clinicians to view at the Children’s Oncology Group (COG)
Conference on October 18-20, 2001 in San Antonio, Texas.
Since 1990, IMPAC has been the leading provider of image and data
management software for cancer therapy and continues to provide
the most advanced and comprehensive clinical and administrative
oncology practice management systems worldwide. IMPAC’s
productivity solutions include interfaces with the top treatment
planning, linear accelerator, and radiotherapy simulator vendors,
as well as with various laboratory and hospital information
systems. The interfaced productivity solutions to IMPAC’s
Multi-ACCESS™ are available within the integrated medical oncology
clinical and administrative practice management system. IMPAC
continues to lead the oncology market in delivering innovative
products and services that proactively meet the needs of
clinicians by enabling pediatric oncologists to enhance their
ability to better care for their patients.
“We are very pleased about our agreement with Cardinal Glennon; we
feel this software is very advantageous to develop and make
available to pediatric oncologists,” states Barbara Robbins, RN,
MBA, medical oncology product marketing manager for IMPAC. “IMPAC
provides integrated clinical and administrative management
solutions that improve overall communication, process efficiency,
and the quality of care. It is our hope that the utilization of
this integrated clinical management system with specific pediatric
parameters will empower providers and allow them to make better
decisions and improve the quality of patient care.”
“Currently, there is not an integrated clinical management system
available for pediatric chemotherapy ordering nor is there a
pediatric alpha phase oncology management system. The pediatric
oncology population is in need of a specialized management system
due to the fact that it utilizes protocols from COG. These are
specific protocols calculated by encompassing the special
considerations of children diagnosed with oncology disorders,”
states Dennis O'Connor, MD, Director of the Bob Costas Cancer
Center at Cardinal Glennon and Professor of Pediatrics at Saint
Louis University. “We are very excited about this opportunity to
work with IMPAC in the development of the first oncology
management system that will be available to aid the pediatric
oncology market.”
Barry S. Friedman, RN, BSN, MBA, Administrative Director of the
Bob Costas Cancer Center is very optimistic about working with
IMPAC in the development of a pediatric oncology management
system. “The potential benefit to increase checks and balances for
delivery of care to our children will be enhanced. We should also
see benefit in more accurate documentation and an improved billing
and reimbursement system.”
