Mountain View, CA, May 17, 2001
IMPAC Medical Systems,
Inc. and the National Cancer Registrars Association’s (NCRA)
Journal of Registry Management (JRM) are proud to announce the
recipients of the annual IMPAC-JRM Best Paper Award. IMPAC and JRM
have teamed up on this annual award to recognize authors published
in the journal during the year 2000. The awards will be presented
to the first authors of the two prize-winning papers during NCRA's
Annual Education Conference, May 24-26, 2001, in Orlando, Florida.
Five former NCRA presidents served on the selection committee:
Steve Roffers, Gayle Clutter, Carol Hutchison, Connie Grace, and
Martha Oliva. They felt the winning papers best exemplified the
professional nature of medical registries and were significant
additions to the body of knowledge dealing with medical registry
work.
The Best Paper Award was won by “Establishment of a cancer
registry in Semipalatinsk, Kazakhstan” published in the February
2000 issue of JRM. It was written by Teresa G. Hayes, MD, PhD,
Leif E. Peterson, MD, Sara Rozin, MS, Patricia Tesch, CTR., Irina
Volguina, PhD, Gadulmanap Abeev, MD, and Armin D. Weinberg, PhD.
“Introducing ICD-O-3: Impact of the New Edition” published in the
November 2000 issue won the Honorable Mention Award. It was
written by April Fritz, RHIT, CTR, and Constance Percy.
“The award is granted to authors publishing the highest quality

professionals,” states Amy Fremgen, PhD, CTR, and Editor of
Journal of Registry Management. “We are proud to partner with
IMPAC on this award and are looking forward to honoring the
