Mountain View, CA, March 29, 2001
IMPAC announced that
Joel Goldwein, M.D., has been appointed vice president of medical
affairs. A cofounder of OncoLink and a leader in medical
informatics, Dr. Goldwein will drive IMPAC’s aggressive deployment
of Internet-based technologies and their integration with IMPAC’s
current suite of products. His other responsibilities will include
enhancement of existing products from a clinician’s perspective
and development of programs to facilitate relations with
professional and research organizations.
Joseph K. Jachinowski, IMPAC’s president and chief executive
officer, personally recruited Dr. Goldwein for the newly created
position. “We are very fortunate to have Joel as part of our
management team because of his truly unique background,” said Mr.
Jachinowski. He brings a wealth of experience as an oncology
clinician and an expert in medical informatics. Joel will be
instrumental in enhancing our current products with Web-based
capabilities and giving clinicians a multi-access approach to
providing care. IMPAC is committed to helping healthcare
professionals make better decisions by empowering them with
information, and Joel’s expertise will help us to continue
delivering on that commitment.”
Prior to joining IMPAC, Dr. Goldwein was associate professor of
radiation oncology at the University of Pennsylvania Medical
Center. Since 1992, he has served as director of Penn’s residency
training program for radiation oncology as well as director of the
Pediatric Radiation Oncology clinical services since 1988. In
addition, he directed the networking and data operations for the
radiation oncology department since 1994. He holds several other
appointments at the University and sits on numerous departmental,
University and national committees. Among those, he was former
associate dean of medical informatics for the Office of Academic
Programs at Penn.
Dr. Goldwein has special interests in medical informatics. He is
the inventor and developer of ProCLIPS (http://www.proclips.com),
a hybrid radiation oncology clinical data processing system and
tumor registry. He is also co-founder of OncoLink (http://www.oncolink.upenn.edu),
one of the first and most prestigious Web-based cancer information
resources. Most recently, he directed the implementation and
development of Virtual Curriculum 2000, a program that included
the full digitization of medical school lectures along with
numerous other electronic resources to facilitate conventional and
distance learning.
“In the last 15 years that I've been a practicing radiation
oncologist, IMPAC is the only company that has been so clearly
focused on the informatics challenges that have intrigued me and
the only company that has been so successful in solving them,”
said Dr. Goldwein. “IMPAC offered me the opportunity and tools to
find innovative ways to tackle new challenges, and I offer them
the unique vision and experience that they value.”
“Joel’s expertise in the field of oncology and his role as
co-founder of OncoLink makes him the ideal person to lead IMPAC’s
Internet initiative,” Mr. Jachinowski continued. “As a clinician,
Joel provides a perspective of our customer’s needs that will be
beneficial to maintaining our reputation as a leading provider of
integrated clinical and administrative solutions that improve
overall communication, process efficiency and the quality of
care.”
