IMPAC Makes Longitudinal Cancer Data Available Online

Studies of Nearly 1.7 Million Cancer Cases offer Healthcare Community Detailed Treatment and Outcomes Data

Mountain View, CA, July 5, 2000
IMPAC announced today that data from its National Oncology DataBase (NODB) is now available online in three suites of pre-defined studies. Through www.oncologydatabase.com, practitioners and other healthcare industry personnel can purchase NODB data to be delivered via e-mail. The reports are provided in Microsoft Excel spreadsheet format, so that researchers have the flexibility to format, graph, and analyze current cancer information.

The NODB is a longitudinal study of more than 1.6 million cancer cases occurring throughout the United States. The NODB provides current data and is continually updated with new and existing cases diagnosed from 1985 through the current date. Traditional oncology data sources provide data that is delayed from three to five years in its reporting.

On-line NODB Syndicated Report Suites consist of multiple reports, focusing on Patient Demographics and Follow-Up; Detailed Tumor Description; and Detailed Treatment Description. Suites of reports available online are specific to one defined site of cancer. Available sites include Breast, Non-Small Cell Lung, Prostate, Colon, Bladder plus 20 additional commonly occurring cancers.

“The NODB syndicated suites provide detailed information to cancer care professionals in an easily accessible format. Many sources typically provide data that is several years old before it becomes publicly accessible. Other sources provide data that must be manually keyed into a spreadsheet before flexible analyses can be performed. IMPAC is making this data usable – providing the raw numbers in a spreadsheet so analysts have the opportunity to both review our reports and create their own analyses from a current data source,” said Mark Arnold, Decision Support Product Manager, IMPAC Medical Systems.

Containing case demographic information as its foundation, the NODB also provides drill-down detail into tumor descriptions, as well as radiation treatment and chemotherapeutic administration detail. As cases are input from more than 180 cancer registries and tracked from diagnosis to death, the NODB is also uniquely suitable for survival analyses.
