Impac Software Receives Certification from Cancer Care Ontario for Anatomic Pathology Synoptic Reporting

Impac’s PowerPath® meets CCO’s new data standards for cancer-related pathology reporting

Sunnyvale, CA, (December 18, 2008)
Impac Software, part of the Elekta Group and provider of software solutions for anatomic pathology (AP) laboratories, today announced that PowerPath’s synoptic reporting tool, version 9.2.5 and higher, has received certification from Cancer Care Ontario (CCO). The certification formally authorizes the company as a vendor that can assist Ontario hospitals with meeting CCO’s 2008-2009 College of American Pathologists (CAP) / Collaborative Staging (CS) aligned data standards for pathology reporting.

Standardized pathology reporting increases the availability and consistency of cancer pathology information that is essential for treatment decisions, evaluation and research. Over the past two years, CCO has made substantial progress working with hospitals. In an effort to continue to support them, CCO has developed a process to certify specific vendor solutions against defined reporting standards. The certification of a vendor solution is the first step to validating that it can be implemented or enhanced to assist the hospitals in meeting the new standards.

Impac Software complies with the 2008-2009 CAP/CS aligned data standards developed by Cancer Care Ontario in conjunction with the College of American Pathologists (CAP) Cancer Committee, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Joint Committee on Cancer. The CAP checklists
1 for breast, colorectal, endometrium, lung and prostate were amended to include the mandatory pathological collaborative staging elements.

Impac’s PowerPath version 9.2.5 or higher should be able to assist hospitals with meeting the new CCO reporting standards for cancer-related pathology reporting in Ontario.

“We are very pleased to receive this certification for synoptic reporting from Cancer Care Ontario. To comply with CCO’s certification requirement, we developed new worksheets and added them to our existing cancer protocol reporting suite – a feature available to every new or upgraded PowerPath customer since 2006,” says George Rugg, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Impac Software’s LIS business unit. “We have considerable experience implementing the synoptic reporting tool and are excited to work with laboratories in Ontario to meet their reporting needs in the future.
